Sensei Williams

Sensei Williams appointed Chief Instructor May 2020

Sensei Williams has over 25 years of experience in Karate. Started with KUGB/JKA and has been with the Club for several years, he qualified at the prestigious International JKA Spring Course 2012 under Sensei Tomlin and Sensei Steward.

He holds JKA International Instructor D Qualification is fully Insured and holds the Disclosure & Barring Service Enhanced, First Aid level 3 , NSPCC child protection in Sport Certificate, First Aid for Martial Arts Instructors Level 3 (VTQ)

Sensei Williams is very popular with students at the Club, his patience when teaching is demonstrated at every lesson, he is very hard working and an asset to the Club. He is currently working towards his and Judges & Referees JKA License.

Sensei has previous competed in the veterans Kumite category at the JKA Open Championships 2017,2018,2019  Undefeated. 

We hold him with very high esteem in the Club.

Nigel Richmond, 1st Dan JKA

Ashley Richmond

Nigel (Ashley) Richmond has been practising Karate for twenty years. He regularly attends JKA England International and National courses , has studied Karate under many top instructors and has ample experience teaching alongside the Coach/Head Instructors.

Ashley passed his coaching qualification JKA/EKF at the International course in Crowley under Sensei Tomlin in 2014  , he  holds Disclosure and Barring Service Enhanced (old CRB)  and  Insurance creditation…

He is highly thought of at the  Club,  extremely hard working and an asset to our Club. We expect great things from him Ashley is currently working towards his Instructors and Referees &  Judges JKA license.

Aaron Storey, 3rd Dan JKA

AaronStorey2016Sensei Storey has been practising Karate for over eight years. Our youngest Instructor, he has come through the ranks at East London JKA Karate Club, having joined as a complete beginner on one of our summer courses run in conjunction with the local council in 2011. He regularly attends JKA England International and National courses , has studied Karate under many top instructors and has ample experience teaching alongside the Coach/Head Instructor.

Aaron  passed his coaching qualification JKA/EKF at the International May Spring Course in Crawley under Sensei Tomlin in 2016.

Aaron joins the pool of Club Instructors from may 2016, has worked hard to attained JKA International Instructors C Referees D & Judges D license 2020/21. 

Sensei Aaron competes as JKA England Senior member and has won a number of JKA competitions

We hold immense pride in having helped Aaron with his previous development.  We at the Club is very happy that he has achieved so much in already. it is nothing short of remarkable..

2017 /2018 Sensei Storey has took over the  the role of Chief Instructor at Stratford Karate Club and has remains an instructor at East London JKA club.

Claire Bernabe, 2ND JKA

Sensei Claire started her karate journey by chance as a PE option in Secondary School. After her 1st lesson,  she was hooked and trained religiously, attaining my Shodan within 4 years.  After a break she returned to the dojo under JKA.

She hold a JKA Nidan graded by Ohta Sensei. she attained her Coaching Licence in 2022 under Stewart Sensei & Guiseppe Sensei.  additional holds valid certificates in First Aid for Martial Arts Instructors Level 3 (VTQ) and Safeguarding of Children (Child Protection) Level 2 (VTQ).

She regularly attends JKA England courses including International & National events, Referee and Instructor courses.   She also had the  privileged to train at JKA Honbu in Tokyo with her son and  the infamous Naka Sensei in 2019.

Sensei Claire can be seen helping the students in the club (children and adults), supporting and encouraging them to achieve the best of themselves when ever the opportunity arises.

Carlos Bastidas, 2nd Dan JKA

Sensei Bastidas the former Chief Instructor for East London JKA for the past 10 years has now been appointed Club Charmain.

Sensei Bastidas will now perform the task of Chairman for the Club and will remain in the pool of Instructors.

Sensei Bastidas has full Indemnity Insurance, Disclosure and Barring Service Enhanced Certification and a JKA England Coaching Qualification, (recognised by EKF English Karate Federation).

He has also successfully passed examinations with JKA England and holds grade 3 Instructors License and grade 4 Judges and Referee License.

He holds Grade D International JKA Instructors License.
