EAST LONDON JKA KARATE CLUB  SPECIAL OPEN TRAINING SESSION

Saturday 7th September 2019

Sensei Ken Hori (5th Dan) kindly returned to the Club after our Summer Grading to run an excellent session today.

Sensei focused on Kihon basics, hip and core movement and control. Going back to basic blocks, kicks and punches in simple combinations, Sensei broke down each technique to display proper hip movement.

Low grades paired up practising these basic combinations, positioned knee to knee or toe to toe with their partner to avoid compromising their stance.

The High grade session was an extension of the basics, placing more emphasis on the application of Hikite, and contraction and expansion. Students in their groups of three would practice blocking & counter from attacks either side, trying to keep grounded. Students also paired up to concentrate on maintaining stances back and forth from zenkutsu dachi to kokutsu dachi.

Katas of the day were Heian Sandan and Jion applying the techniques we had learnt earlier.

A brilliant session, enjoyed by all and each of us walked away having learnt something new. Thank you Sensei Hori and Club.

Oss.

Harold Road Dojo

August 7th, 2019

HIGH IMPORTANCE

We regret to inform all our students and parents that as from the end of August 2019 we will no longer have lessons at Harold Road Centre.

We have been informed that our annual contract will not be renewed, the Centre has e-mailed us to say, that due to financial and business reasons they can no longer offer us or guarantee us the space anymore.

We have through a mutual agreement with the Centre decided, that our best course of action will be to part company, not an easy decision, as the Club has been established at the centre for a long time.”

We are working hard to see if the dojo can be moved elsewhere however East Ham is very difficult to find a suitable place if any one has any ideas though let us know.

A final decision will be made in the following weeks as to whether we will continue with the Monday lesson close to the Centre..

We ask all students to look at alternative lessons ie Saturday 10.15 am @Newham leisure Centre, there is also Stratford Karate Club, (JKA) in Stratford who have Monday lessons also.

Thank you for your understanding

Results Nationals 2019

June 25th, 2019

JKA National Competition June 2019

Well done to all students from East London JKA Club who participated in last weekend National
Competition.

Everyone did exceptionally well, displaying respect, spirit and good sportsmanship. All their
hard work and training was evident on the mat today, with some very tough categories,
particularly the higher grades.

Boys (6-9) kumite was so close in the semi finals. Blake & Bejan (Budokwai), his opponent had to spar three times, with Blake losing out on a technical point (making distance).

Female (21+) Kata, all candidates made it to the finals by default due to no shows (BYE).
Sravya waited so patiently from 11:30am to 5pm to do her Kata in such a tough category.

Chaz, Andrew and Gina secured Gold for Mixed Team Kata after only x2 practice sessions together. And if that wasn’t enough for Chaz, she swept up Gold for both individual kata and
kumite.

No major casualties and a couple of early knockouts, but we all gained some invaluable
experience and some of us have a far better appreciation of the rules and competition
environment.

Thank you to all families and friends who came to support and cheer us on.

Great results for the Club and congratulations to all those who won medals:

KATA:

Blake Valenzuela (6-9yrs) = Silver
Charlotte Josephs (16+) = Gold
Aaron Storey (21+) = Gold
Gina Regan, Andrew Dalton & Chaz Joseph (Mixed Team Kata) = Gold

KUMITE:

Blake Valenzuela (6-9yrs) = Bronze
Lily Regan (10-12yrs) = Bronze
Elle Bahari (10-12yrs) = Silver
Charlotte Josephs (16+) = Gold
Aaron Storey (21+) = Silver

July Grading 2019

June 3rd, 2019

Congratulations to all our students in successfully passing their Grading over the weekend under Sensensi K.Hori 5th Dan JKA.

Another highly motivated training and grading session with the participation of Stratford Karate Club.

Our thanks to all the parents, friends, volunteers and especially students for their exemplary behaviour throughout the training and Grading.

We have had very good feedback from the majority of parents and students. Sensei Hori is looking forward to coming back in September to run a Club course, he was happy with the way we run the grading, which made it easier for him to concentrate solely on the students examining on the day.

Thank you to all the instructors for their kind help with the grading/ handing out of Certificates belts etc Thank you to our Club License Officer for her kind help with the Licences and Certificates.

Another successful grading, please note we will now have a two week holiday rest period next month, do please continue to practice at home or on holiday.
